Today marks a significant milestone in our collective efforts to enhance safeguarding practices within the dance community. We are excited to announce the launch of the 2nd National Survey of Safeguarding and Abuse Prevention in Dance, in collaboration with One Dance UK and the National Institute of Dance Medicine and Science.
The survey, which will be open from 1 May to 30 June 2025, is dedicated to understanding and improving safeguarding practices in dance. This second-ever national survey will help to identify progress made from the first survey done in 2021 and better understand what challenges remain.
We invite leaders from all UK dance organisations, including head teachers, performance directors, and designated safeguarding leads/officers to participate in this important survey. Your valuable insights will help shape future policies and create a safer environment for dancers of all ages and backgrounds. By contributing to this survey, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a safeguarding culture to protect dancers from harm, abuse, and neglect, while also promoting their health, wellbeing, and human rights.
Participants will also have the opportunity to download a PDF copy of their survey responses. This feature serves as a self-audit of your organisation’s safeguarding policies, providing a comprehensive overview that can aid you in reviewing your own practices.
We encourage all dance organisation leaders to take part in this survey and share their knowledge and experiences. Together, we can ensure that safeguarding remains a top priority in dance and continue to build a community where every dancer feels safe and protected.
