We are marking this year’s World Kindness Day by preparing to launch some exciting and innovative research, that aims to promote psychologically safe, caring environments based on small acts of kindness.

Our upcoming study will explore the topic of compassion and mental health in performance settings. Specifically, we are interested to hear how dancers and athletes experience compassion and how these experiences relate to mental health and wellbeing outcomes. Having this information will help us to understand how to create more supportive performance environments where individuals and teams can flourish.

What makes this research exciting?
This will be the first time that dancers’ and athletes’ experiences with compassion have been studied at the same time. Through this research, we aim to draw similarities and differences between these related but distinct contexts.
If you’d like to read a bit more about how this research fits into some of the broader interests of the SPRINT project, you can check out this previous blog post.
What’s next?
We will update you once the study is open, so please stay tuned.
For now, if you would like to register your interest in taking part, or wish to ask for further information, you can contact us on exm026@student.bham.ac.uk (dancers) or fxc101@student.bham.ac.uk (athletes). We look forward to hearing from you!
