We’re excited to share that SPRINT Project researcher Dr Georgia Bird has been awarded a Centre-UB Fellowship, supporting a new international project focused on mental health in Paralympic sport.

Hosted by the University of Birmingham, and in collaboration with UK Sports Institute, the fellowship will explore how athletes are supported across the Games cycle and aims to build global collaboration around this important topic.

This work reflects our commitment to inclusive, athlete-centered research and will unfold over the next year through a series of engagements, studies, and co-produced outputs.

🔍 Why This Matters

Mental health in elite sport is gaining overdue attention, but Paralympic contexts bring unique challenges and opportunities. This fellowship recognises the need for tailored approaches that reflect the lived experiences of Paralympic athletes and the structures that support them.

🌐 A Global Conversation

The fellowship will promote international dialogue, drawing on diverse perspectives to shape meaningful, inclusive recommendations. While rooted in research, the project is ultimately about people.

🤝 Collaboration at the Core

We are proud to support work that prioritises co-production, ethical engagement, and cultural sensitivity. This fellowship is not just about producing knowledge, it’s about building relationships and amplifying voices that are often underrepresented in sport research.

We look forward to sharing more as the project develops!
